Ciclovia Belfast returns for 2016!

| Dean Anthony | ,

Ciclovia is back in Belfast for 2016 after the success of the 2015 event.

We are delighted to be given the opportunity once again to design and create the website for Ciclovia and continue to be part of this great event.

Ciclovia/Cyclovia

For the uninitiated Ciclovia or Cyclovia means Cycleway – a completely motorised vehicle free area in which people can cycle safely without the dangers of cars, vans and buses. It began in South America almost three decades ago and travelled throughout the world before it landed in Belfast last year to great success. Providing a safe and welcoming environment for families to enjoy the freedom of cycling through a city on a glorious autumn day. Cycle clubs from Belfast and all over Ulster joined in with the cycle freeway to many rave reviews. MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir said this about the success of the event:

“It’s only ten months since the Ciclovía concept was brought to Belfast so to see the dream of a car-free city brought to reality today was a great testament to what can be achieved when we all pull together.”

Cycle in a traffic-free zone

The traffic-free zone followed a return route along Botanic Avenue, Shaftesbury Square, Dublin Road, and Bedford Street to Belfast City Hall. On the green of the city hall there where plenty of activities to keep everyone happy including a free bike check up supplied by McConvey cycles.

This year the event takes place on the 30th October between 9:30am and 12.00pm (noon), following the same route as last year but a much bigger turnout is expected as news spreads of this great scheme, and hopefully becoming a staple in Belfast’s events calendar for the Autumn for years to come.
