Big News … We are Moving!

The secret is finally out, we are moving.

We are delighted to reveal that from the start of September, the SugarProjects office will be relocated to 30 Belmore Street, Enniskillen.

Time to move on to the next chapter at SugarProjects! We are delighted to be moving into the centre of Enniskillen town where we can enjoy and support the wide variety of cafes, takeaways and coffee shops!

Below are a few sneak peek photos we are showing off before we fully decorate and brand the office!

Meet Donal; DC Fanboy and wannabe pro footballer

Donal is the most recent addition to the SugarProjects Team. He has lots of experience in web development and management, especially with large ecommerce and brochure websites. Donal brings valuable skills and knowledge to the collective at SugarProjects.

What is your favourite TV show/film to watch?
The Last of the Mohicans, I must have seen it 50 times. Great soundtrack.

What is your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
Going for a spin on the bike, trying to play the guitar or having a few beers.

Currently binge watching any tv shows?
Just finished ‘The Office’ American version. Very funny.

Guilty pleasure?
I do love a good musical. ‘Rock of Ages’ is a favourite, also seen ‘Les Misérables’ in the West End which was really enjoyable.

Which four individuals, living or dead, would you like to eat dinner with the most?
Bruce Springsteen, Steve Carell, Roy Keane & Geraint Thomas

Favourite food?
It’s a toss up between Lasagne and Sunday Roast.

What fictional place would you most like to visit?
Themyscira

1. Favourite code framework?
I have used a few through the years depending on the project but some of my preferred frameworks are Laravel, Bootstrap & jQuery.

2. At what point did you realise that you wanted to be a web developer?
To be honest I didn’t really know what I wanted to do when I left school. When a career in professional football didn’t materialise I decided to go into further education and study computer science, from there I went onto college and really liked the web development modules I studied.

Meet Dr Catherine McDreamy; Amatuer photographer, Potato lover and Hamilton Super Fan

Catherine is a SugarProjects Rookie having only joined the company in March 2021. Covid restrictions have curtailed her interaction with fellow colleagues and clients, but Catherine is very much part of the SugarProjects team and adds a fresh perspective on a range of print, web and social media projects.

What is your favourite TV show/film to watch?
I do love a variety of genres from TV Dramas, to Reality shows  and Thrillers. But Grey’s Anatomy would for sure be my favourite show. I’ve watched it that many times that at this rate I am awaiting my medical license haha.

What is your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
I love everything about getting some fresh air and stretching the legs – ideal location near the sea with my camera in hand, there’s never a moment that I don’t capture at least one thing a day, as you can find beauty in anything.

Guilty pleasure?
I do love to watch and listen to musicals – over the past year I was introduced to Hamilton and let’s say the playlist was on repeat for a few days haha.

Which four individuals, living or dead, would you like to eat dinner with the most?
Will Smith, Dermot Kennedy, Hailey Bieber and Lewis Capaldi would be my ultimate choice – as I could be entertained by Dermot’s singing, whilst receiving some fashion advice from Hailey, along with the some funny moments from Will and Lewis, with a side of motivational inspiration from Will.

Any superpower what you would choose?
Ohh now that’s an interesting question – I would say teleportation.

Favourite food?
I must admit I’m stuck between two choices: For my favourite savoury food it would have to be potatoes as they have endless options lol. I must admit I do have a sweet tooth- so if there is chocolate cake on the menu …I am sold. Let’s be real I would be the person who would finish a chocolate cake off like Bruce in Matilda.

What fictional place would you most like to visit?
Probably Hogwarts, like how class would that be to roam around and discover!

1. Favourite Typeface:
My favourite typeface  would be Montserrat as it’s such a classy yet modern sans-serif font to use. However that being said, I also like the combination of handwritten fonts and sans-serif – as it brings an interesting  element to a piece of design work and is also visual pleasing with the contrasting fonts.

2. When did you discover you wanted to be a Graphic Designer?
Through my years of education I have been intrigued by technology and especially throughout my higher national diploma I discovered how much I love designing. This then lead me in studying Interactive Media at Ulster University (Coleraine) as it offered a variety of modules which allowed me to explore my skills and gain more practice.

3. What is your favourite piece of work?
My final major project from Uni would have been one of my favourite projects to work on. My project was based on a proposed solution on investigating ‘how the combination of photography and augmented reality can be used effectively on exploring the representation of mental health.’ My proposed solution was to produce a photography installation with an immersive experience of the use of augmented reality to unlock more layers. It allowed me to realise how augmented reality can be powerful in the meaning and interpretation through not only the media content but through the medium itself. This would have been an immersive experience showcasing a new perspective, which could change behaviours and enhances our understanding of how mental health can be perceived.

Meet Jason; Gamer, B movie enthusiast and wannabe fisherman

Jason joined SugarProjects as a Junior Developer early in 2020. He has quickly established himself as a very competent, methodical and controlled coder. Jason lives in the Matrix and is very comfortable with his binary environment. His movie, music and TV choices are questionable, but we don’t judge at SugarProjects!

What is your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
My favourite way to unwind is more programming, art and creating music! It’s a lot of fun to experiment, learn and be creative in your free time. I also like to go fishing in my free time!

Guilty pleasure?
Watching really bad movies: The Room (Tommy Wiseau), Birdemic, Kung Pow; Enter the Fist, Sharknado, …

Favourite food?
Anything with Duck in it!

What is your go-to coding language?
C# is the language I find the most interesting but JavaScript is just so flexible it’s hard not to get carried away!

Favourite code framework?
For a big project, I’d be hard pressed not to refer to Vue or React on the frontend but personally I always enjoyed messing around or prototyping with something like EJS for simplicity!
Express.js is a backend web app framework for Node.js. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with it but always intended to take a deep dive back. Even have some books on it!

What is your favourite piece of work?
I used to work on a lot of personal small video game projects. I made countless prototypes of small ideas. My favourite one was very basic in which the player controlled a small pixel art marble that explored an expansive open world with different biomes of sand, grass, and rock. It was not action packed or anything like that and I feel that is why I liked it so much. It created a peaceful atmosphere and allowed me to be very creative with new features. This included things like, day turning to night, small animals roaming around, lighting systems and particle physics for effects. After a while I started to create a subtle story but never got far in finishing the project! However, I’m always reminded of it when someone asks about my favourite project.

This year, we are proudly supporting Friends of the Cancer Centre with a number of local activities and events at SugarProjects. The first of these events is a coffee morning in the Killyhevlin Industrial Estate on Friday 4th October 2019, from 10am-12pm. All donations received will go towards Ciara’s sky dive fundraiser for Friends of the Cancer Centre who gave amazing support and guidance to her and her family when she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.  If you live, work or happen to be passing through Enniskillen on Friday 4th Oct, and you would like to support Ciara, please drop in and donate to this essential resource.

“To mark my five years in remission from Hodgkins Lymphoma, I have decided to do a sky dive in order to raise money for the charity that helped me and my family so much during a dark time. Friends of the Cancer Centre offered us support and guidance when I was diagnosed and helped us throughout the course of my treatment. As a young person battling cancer, they went above and beyond to make sure I felt comforted and supported. Five years on, I am so happy to be raising money for this amazing charity and raising awareness for Hodgkins Lymphoma.”

What is your guilty pleasure?
I love Musicals…on stage and on the small screen. I can’t wait for the stage production of “The Greatest Showman”.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
I love everything GAA so I find the best way to destress is to go to football training with my local team in Kinawley and think of nothing else for an hour…even better if its pouring rain…so refreshing.

Favourite place you’ve visited?
Definitely Orlando Florida,  me and my husband stayed there for a few days of our honeymoon but I’d love to go back for longer…you hear that Sean!! 😊 I’m a big child at heart and a bit of an adrenaline junkie so I love the theme park rides, the shows and just the experience of it all.

What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?
I can hula hoop and rollerblade at the same time…multitasking at its finest!

Favourite TV show/film to watch?
Admittedly I watch quite a few Reality shows but my favourite shows are anything History or Politics related or True life dramas. My favourite film is Schindler’s List.

1. At what point did you realise that you wanted to be a web designer?
I’ve always known that I wanted to work with computers but was never sure what field. In the past I’ve tried my hand as a Graphic Designer and a Front-end Web Developer but my heart definitely lies with UI and Web Design. It gives me more flexibility and freedom in terms of being creative and I love how it is constantly evolving.

2. What is your favourite font?
I’m not sure I have one favourite font but I love using contrasting fonts which complement each other such as combining serif and sans-serif fonts. Vollkorn and Roboto are a good combination.
